Recently, I needed to convert plenty of images from jpeg to webp. For tasks like this, I like to use the shell. In my case, bash.

The one-liner I've used to batch covert the images is the following: fd -e jpg --exec cwebp {} -o webp/{.}.webp

To get all my images, I've used fd, an alternative to the default find command. Both can do the job, but I prefer fd because of the simpler syntax.

And to convert the images, there is cwebp. I don't know if there are alternatives, this is the first I've found in my search, and it did the job well. ๐Ÿ˜Š

In the end, I've saved ~90% of the file size, which is quite impressive. ๐Ÿš€

The Good

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป A giant relief was that I was able to close everything related to my old client's project. I did a good Handover and completed all my last tasks. I can't really say something bad about the last client, but you feel it, when you are not honestly welcome there but need to get some work done. At least I can say I've learned some new things about people's behavior in the last 1,5 years.

๐Ÿก Constant progress in the garden and on the house. I was able to flatten some sand to prepare the ground for new lawn. Got some new information's how I could make better use of lawn tractor to save some muscle work.

๐Ÿฐ There were some relaxing days over the Easter holidays, which helped a lot to gain some new energy.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ I finally had time to work on my side project and completed a good chunk of tasks. I hope a can now work more on it and open it for tests.

๐Ÿฟ I've rewatched Pacific Rim and for me, it is a masterpiece, one of those movies I can watch over and over again. Still visually stunning after more than 10 years. I turn into a kid again with these kinds of movies. ๐Ÿ˜

The Bad

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป Starting on my new client projects feels very slow because I have to do courses, which is not bad, but the courses are not very helpful. I don't have a real working environment at the moment (working on citrix). And I don't have access to environments I need to work on some tickets and code. I get why that environment is so locked, but it is difficult to get started. Even worse, when the responsible people are sick and everything takes even more time.

The Ugly

๐Ÿคจ The last week was quite hard, ending one project while starting a new one while having the little one at home to take care of while my wife was working onsite on her project.

It feels that most of my post are related to music and concerts. Yes, currently I write a lot about it, but in the last 3 Months, I was on more concerts than in the past 5 years. ๐Ÿ˜… My original plan for this blog was to write about me, development and freelance stuff. But It's fine for me to write about other topics, as long as I can practice writing. ๐Ÿ‘

One reason was/is time. In the past 5 years, we've got 2 kids and there was not much time to go to concerts. Another reason was Covid, which I don't need to explain.

Especially the march was a concert heavy month with 5 concerts. It was a hard month, also because of other stuff going on, but the concerts were worth the effort. :)

One reason I got back into concerts was a good friend who dragged me a bit into it again. And I'm happy about it.

Something like this concert-march was a bit too much. I will continue to go to concerts, but not as often anymore.

The next planned concerts will be: โ€“ Asinhell on June 18 โ€“ Better Lovers on July 5 โ€“ Sepultura on November 22 โ€“ Kreator, Anthrax and Testament on December 8

Cattle Decapitation Tour Poster from Lido Berlin

๐Ÿค˜ Today, I make this a quick one. On March 25, we went to see Cattle Decapitation. Before they started playing, there were 3 Bands playing before, Vomit Forth, 200 Stab Wounds and Signs of the Swarm.

Vomit Forth was a kind of refreshing. From the 3 Bands, the one I liked most. Only the singer was shouting too much to get the crowd dancing. ๐Ÿ˜…

200 Stab Wounds, I don't know what to say about them. They got a lot of hype lately, but I can't understand why. Sounded to my like young Ektomorf. What is not bad, but I'm enjoyed the original more.

Signs of the Swarm, like Lorna Shore? The sound was awful. Too much from everything. Also, they had some kind of choreography. Which is not bad, but if you see or feel it, then I think it is not well done.

Cattle Decapitation, finally they started playing. And it was worth the wait! All of them did an impressive job, and Travis is such a beast on the microphone. They played for ~1 hour, and they could have played some hours more with me not getting tired of seeing and hearing them. Sadly, they didn't play an encore. But I hope I can see them again. ๐Ÿซก

One funny thing that evening was a guy who filmed others, while they filmed the band. Every time someone started filming in front of him, he started to and zoomed in. Interesting Kink, I guess? ๐Ÿ˜‚

The next planned concert will be Asinhell on June 18. So no concert post from me for some time. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

A hedge made from dead wood, with a blue sky and some clouds

Today, again a summary of 2 weeks. This time there is a bit more to say. :)

The Good

๐Ÿค˜ I was at 3 concerts in 1 week, Botch and Heavysaurus, The Halo Effect and Meshuggah. Quite an endeavor, but it made a lot of fun. The Heavysaurus concert was also the second together with my oldest child.

๐Ÿก We made good progress in and around our house. In the following weeks we will get heaters in the Cellar. ~50% of the walls a painted and the rest is waiting to get plastered. Outside the house, we finally got rid of our sand heap, which was there for around 4 years. After getting rid of all our hedges, there was room to fill in the sand.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ In Week 11 I've signed a new contract for my next development project. In Week 12 I started with a soft onboarding because there were colleagues on vacation.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Some weeks ago, I've opened a depot and bought some ETFs (ISHSIII-CORE MSCI WLD DLA) to get familiar with this topic. I bought them at the right time, where they had a high. ๐Ÿ˜… I need to take some more time and explore this topic more to get the best out of it.

The Bad

๐Ÿ‘ถ The Kita rejected our blind child after promising they will take care of him from August on. When I heard it, I was paralyzed and speechless. This made my furious. We did all we can to support them with it. We got one-to-one support and had support from all the authorities, and still, they rejected him.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป Currently, with all the stuff ongoing on our house and with the kids, there is not much time for me to program on my side projects. Let's see what eastern would bring. Maybe some time. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿค– I've fucked up my paperless-ngx installation again. And again, I didn't make a backup. After I re-added my documents and tags, I need to force me to make a backup and think about a periodic solution. โ˜๏ธ

๐ŸชŸ I haven't used Windows since XP. Sometimes in a VM to Test webpages with Internet Explorer, but I never installed it on a physical machine. So I thought I will never get a Project which completely is tied to Microsoft and Windows. Sure, in the past, you had Teams and all the office and Azure stuff, but Windows? I thought this was a thing of the past. Let's see how this is going, after 9โ€“10 years of Linux and 1 year of Mac as a Freelancer.

The Ugly

๐Ÿ˜  I'm furious and feel a lot of hate for the Kita people responsible for rejecting our blind child. I don't want to feel like this, it makes me sad, but at them moment I don't know how I should handle this. Especially when you have to go to the Kita every day and leave your oldest child there. For him, you have to pretend that everything is fine, but inside you could scream at these people. It's hard because they put you in this spot out of egoism and maybe fear of changing their daily life for no reasonโ€ฆ But I think we have to get used to this because this will not be the last time we are confronted with something similar. It makes me so sad because he is such a lovely child with a lot of joy to live.

Pommesgabel Tour 2024 which shows the band Heavysaurus on a yellow background and the tour dates.

Two shows on March 16. Quite an undertaking. ๐Ÿ˜…

Heavysaurus was the first show of the day, with my oldest son. We had VIP tickets for a meet and greet with the dinos. Before the show, there was the meet and greet. There was a demarcated area, where the dinos will show up. We stood in a line and each kid could take some time with them. We took photos and my son asked some questions. Later, the dinos swarmed out and everyone could talk to the individual dinos and take photos, which we also did.

One hour later, the show started. They played many new songs and ended with some good old ones. ๐Ÿค˜ I'm not a real fan of the new songs, and I see that my son isn't either. In the end, we've had a lot of fun and enjoyed the show. I liked the idea that the demarcated area was also the pit for the kids, where they could dance, jump and celebrate the dinos from there.

Heavysaurus on stage in red light.

After the Heavysaurus show, I was in a rush. I had ~3 hours to reach the next show. With the car, I drove ~1 hour to drop my son at home and then took the train to the next location. It worked exact as planned. Which is not a usual thing. ๐Ÿคฃ One week before the Meshuggah show started, they announced that they will start 1 hour earlier because they wanted to close on time at 11 pm.

Tour dates on a black background and a burning skeleton.

I arrived with the last songs of The Halo Effect. I missed Mantar completely. The venue was full. Really full. It was challenging to find my friend there. But found him. What I heard from The Halo Effect was nice, and I was sad that I missed three-fourths of their set. But I'm sure I will see them sometime again. In the end, nothing more to say. They did a fantastic job and the crowd seemed to enjoy them.

After the change, Meshuggah started playing. From our original position, we moved away because there were too many drunken people, which was annoying. After a second move, we were standing in the last row, which was good enough. Never saw a location so crowded. But we were there for Meshuggah. From start to end, it was just a MASSIVE bulldozer that rolled over you, which left my speechless. Sadly, the lighting was a bit distracting, which is the reason I don't have any images. I assume that the lights were wanted so that you can't take images or videos of the show. The result was that you had a hard time, watching them. :( This has pro and cons. Overall, I still liked the show and was pleased to be there.

๐Ÿ“‹ Meshuggah Setlist

It was a stressful but nice day. We had a lot of fun. :)

Image with Tour dates of the Euro + UK Tour 2024

On Tuesday, 12 March, the evening started with Great Falls (https://greatfalls.bandcamp.com/). After the first songs, I realized that it is not my kind of music. They had a lot of presence on stage, especially the bassist. So it made fun to watch them. And with every song, they grew on me and I liked their songs more and more. But then, they played their last song and sadly, it was a +14ย min song with many melodic parts, which is not bad but was not the right song to end their show.

After a break, Botch (https://botch.bandcamp.com/) started to play. And it was a delight. You felt the energy in the hole location. Everyone was happy to see them, and Botch seemed thrilled to play the show. The location was sold out, and we were a bit sad that they moved from Festsaal Kreuzberg to BiNuu, which was a significant smaller location. The BiNuu had a good sound for the size of this location, and the location was full. So it was good at the end. We had a lot of fun watching the guys play, and they played a really long show. There were tears and many laughs between the songs. Botch announced that this will be the last show they will ever play in Berlin. So it was more of a farewell show and tour. It was nice to witness all of this.

Watching the show of Botch from the back, where the Singer stands surrounded with yellow light.

I hope Botch will some day play again in Germany, even if they currently say otherwise.

Since I didn't find the time to complete the post for Week 9, it will be covering the last 2 weeks.

The Good

First things first, I was on Hackernews. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Thanks to โ€œjethronethroโ€ for posting. This was quite unexpected and makes me happy.

Here is a Screenshot. Screenshot of blog statistics with the peak from hackernews.

I got a new Project. ๐Ÿฅณ The current project fades out in March, and I'm happy that I can continue with my work for another client in mid-March.

Finally, I saw Wormrot while they Played with Napalm Death: https://bruegge.dev/campaign-for-musical-destruction-tour-2024-factory-magdeburg

The Bad

This should be written in โ€œThe Goodโ€ Part, but somehow, I'm not feeling it, putting it there. On March 10, we saw Dune Part 2, and I'm not as happy I thought I would be, after watching the Movie. Maybe I write a Post about it later.

The Ugly

Nothing. The last 2 Weeks were good, and I'm happy. ๐Ÿ˜Š

CAMPAIGN FOR MUSICAL DESTRUCTION TOUR 2024 Poster with dates and locations

On Friday, 1 March, we went to see Wormrot and Napalm Death on the Campaign For Musical Destruction Tour in Magdeburg.

The location is a nice place. It has a good size, not too big, not too small. You had the option to go outside and get some fresh air, if you made a through the smoking people.

The evening started earlier than planned. It should have started at 8' but Wormrot started 25ย min earlier. Which was sad for the band because the location was nearly empty and got filled increasingly after each song.

Wormrot was such a pleasure to watch, while they performed their songs. Sadly, after the release of their latest record, the singer disbanded from the band and they needed a replacement. Luckily, they found an excellent one with Gabriel Dubko. They did a solid show. What I really liked, was watching the play of the drummer. Such a delight. โค๏ธ

Primitive Man, I can't say much about them. Didn't know them before. It is definitely not my type of music, and I try to be as open as possible to all kinds of music. But they didn't fit into the rest. Felt odd. Back home, I've tried a Song and it was not bad. Something you can hear, while working.

Master, didn't know them before. As I could see it, they were well received by the audience. For me, it was too monotonous. After 3 songs, it felt I heard enough.

Napalm Death, last time I saw them was back in 2013 at the With Full Force festival. It is nice to see that they still have such an energy on the stage. Sadly, Shane Embury, the bassist, was not with them. But still, it was a fantastic show and I enjoyed every minute. And it is still fascinating watching Barney while he performs. ๐Ÿ˜Š
