How. Time. Flies.
It’s fascinating how time flies. In my mind, we are some days after celebrating the new year, and now we are almost half done with the current year. 🤯
In February, I started one more client project. With the intention to help out my client with their customer. Like a fireman putting out a fire. For me, it was time-consuming, and I needed to put other things on lower priority. The benefit for me was not great. More time with little reward. But I wanted to help. The plan was to be done with it in May. Turns out, it is hard for my client to find a new employee who can replace a freelancer. Luckily, they found one, and I will drop out at the end of July.
The worst thing, for me, is not to work more but to manage all the meetings and stuff which has nothing to do with coding. And I realized that I hit a point where it is too much for me. And I miss too much of life at the moment. It sounds like I'm overwhelmed, which I'm not, but I put plenty of things to the side who need more of my attention as they get/deserve.
Haha, I intended not to make a depressing post. So, let's come up with some good stuff. :)
My oldest started riding his bicycle. Which makes me really happy and gives us a lot more opportunities for family trips. :) We started with cheap bikes from the flea market but ended up with a Woom 3. They are expensive as fuck, but you can resell them very well for a good price. So they are cheaper in the end?!
Our swimming pool is ready, and I found a good rhythm to keep it clean. Last year I explored a lot and had no clear workflow. I've tried a robot, which added a lot of work. So the time-money ratio was lousy. I've spent more time, cleaning and recharging this little fucker, than I saved from manually cleaning the pool. The water pump has a new place, which makes room on the lawn and improves the view. I dug a small trench and buried the hoses. The water pump sits now in an old greenhouse, which was unused before.
We have a lawn mower. Finally, a robot. The garden has now a state, where it makes sense to let a robot work on it. The robot (we called it Wall-E) does a much better job than the one for the swimming pool. 😅 But the best, Wall-E saves me time. A lot of time. Without Wall-E but with the extra client, I would have gone insane. 🫠😅
Overall, the garden is in a really got state, and we have more plans for improvement. I will start with the improvements in Autumn. We are constantly looking for different plant types we can plant, and we finally have a good bunch of them to plant at the end of this summer. 🧑🌾
Our Cellar is also making progress. Not as fast as planned, but there is progress. We finally have stairs down into the basement and don't need to access it from the outside. There are a lot of small things to-do, but I can see an End.
AND FINALLY! We now have a solar plant on our roof. For the last 5 weeks we produced so much electricity, that we are independent since then. Today we will implement a heater rod, so we will also produce warm water from the sun. Which saves us some wooden pellets. 🥳
A lot of stuff we planned and worked on over the last year came to an end. So generally, I'm really happy on our current state of life, and I'm excited about the next part of the year. I have many things I want to work and need of time management to get things done. But as always, it's just a matter of priority. 💪
